The function of the bit lifter is to distribute the pressure between the tounge and the nose.
How to fit your bit-lifter:
- Put the bridle on as usual
- Attatch the bit lifter to the noseband
- Attach the strap to the bit
The bit lifter should not lift the bit when you don’t use the reins.
The MASEGO bit lifter is made of soft Italian leather and the hardware in in brass to match our bridles. Embossed logo.
Available in black and brown. Fits Odessa, Lily and Grace.
”A bit-lifter helps maintain the mouthpiece of the bit in a more stable, higher position so that the pressure from the reins is distributed more evenly over the bars, tongue and lips, rather than concentrating in one spot.”

”Using a bit lifter can be very helpful for a horse with bit-related mouth injuries.
A bit lifter slightly raises and stabilises the bit in the horse’s mouth, preventing it from sagging or moving excessively. This reduces friction and pressure on already sensitive or damaged tissue. By keeping the bit in a more consistent and comfortable position, the lifter helps distribute pressure more evenly across the tongue, bars, and lips—allowing the injured areas to heal while maintaining gentle communication through the reins.
In short, a bit lifter helps protect healing tissues, prevents further irritation, and promotes more comfortable, stable contact between horse and rider.”
